Armscote Manor
Friday 12th October 2012 - Evening Lecture

Jessica Douglas Home / A Glimpse of Empire

This is the story of Lilah Wingfield’s escape from the confines of Edwardian society by travelling to Delhi for the 1911 Royal Durbar, where a new King, George V, is to be proclaimed Emperor. From the Khyber Pass on the Afghan border, to Rajastan, to the gory sites of the Mutiny; her diary and photographs show her deepening awareness of the ambivalence of certain maharajas towards British Rule even while she is being entertained royally in their lakeside palaces.

The evening lectures start at 7pm with a glass of wine sponsored by Bablake Wines Limited and the lecture begins at 7.30pm.
